If you or your child has ears that are odd in shape or seem too prominent, ear shaping surgery can be an option for creating a fresh look for the ear. Dr. Joseph Rousso is a nationally respected facial plastic surgeon that specializes in ear plastic surgery and otoplasty . Ear reshaping can be used to change the shape of the ears. It can reduce oblong or pointed shaped ears or even correct lop ears. Reshaping can also be used to reduce the size of earlobes if they appear too long or wide. Correcting these issues can give the patient more self-confidence in their appearance, whether they are a child or an adult.
Ear shaping is a very individualized plastic surgery. The goal is to create an ear shape that is balanced with the face and matches its counterpart. Both adults and children can undergo this procedure, but each case is different. Dr. Rousso takes the time to meet with our patients considering ear shaping and discusses the viable solutions and outcomes to find the best option for the individual for balanced ear contouring.
Infant EarWell Advanced Molding System
Prominent ears can sometimes be noted at birth and may be treated non-surgically in the first few weeks of life. Dr. Rousso performs ear molding with the “EarWell” advanced molding system on newborns. Parents may notice that their newborn has prominent ears or an ear deformity such as a Stahl’s deformity, and ear molding works incredibly well to correct these. These deformities can be the result of cartilage bending in the wrong direction and are sometimes referred to as a “Spock ear deformity” or “Vulcan ear”. These can be done via a simple non-surgical correction performed in the office and can take between 2-8 weeks of treatment for complete resolution.
If you are interested in ear shaping surgery for you or your child, the best plastic surgeon should perform this delicate procedure.
