The natural fat under your facial skin helps shape your face and give it a youthful, healthy appearance. Fat transfer or grafting is a facial cosmetic treatment option to restore volume to the face, using your own fat to safely change the shape of your face. As you get older, it is normal to lose fat in the face. The rounded cheeks of youth often shrink at adulthood, revealing cheekbones and a more angular face. However, this process can continue and by the late thirties and early forties, the face can become thinner, revealing lines and wrinkles that can make it appear older. Fat transfer can restore the volume to the skin, smoothing wrinkles and plumping the skin. The fat is removed from a donor area on the body, often the hips, thighs or abdomen, purified, then injected into the desired area.

What makes fat transfer different than dermal filler injections is the use of your own biological material. Since it is your fat that is added, there is no chance of an allergic or adverse reaction that can occur with synthetic materials. Fat transfer results also last longer than dermal fillers, which must be repeated to maintain results.
